DATA POLICY OVERVIEW
It is CIESIN's policy to facilitate full and open access to quality data for global change research without infringing on the privacy rights of others. To that end, CIESIN strives to act in accordance with the data policies established by the U.S. Global Change Research Program and the Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change Programme of the International Social Science Council and encourages others to do the same.
CREDITS
Data available through CIESIN may be subject to CIESIN claims of copyright and other rights. Users' access to, and use of, such data shall be subject to such rights.
The China Maps Bibliography Database was produced Ms. Alana (Research Assistant of CITAS - University of Washington) as part of the CITAS (China in Time and Space) project, funded by CIESIN under the NASA grant NAGW-2901 and the Ford Foundation grant 995-0669. CIESIN urges users of these data to credit the sources in the following manner: "Ms. Alana Poland, China Maps Bibliography Database, Published and Disseminated by CIESIN at URL: ftp://ftpserver.ciesin.org/pub/data/China/CITAS/map_bib/, February 1997."

PRIVACY AND CONFIDENTIALITY
CIESIN seeks to protect the privacy of both the individuals and organizations upon whom portions of research may be based and those of data users. CIESIN has requested data providers to provide assurances that data to be disseminated by CIESIN complies with federal and state laws respecting the privacy of the individual and the confidentiality of research information. These data are being provided to you with this understanding. Furthermore, CIESIN's policy is to act in accordance with the policy entitled "Policy on Confidentiality of Library Records " Such confidentiality extends to "information sought or received and materials consulted, borrowed or acquired" (ALA Policy Manual 54.16 - Code of Ethics #3). Therefore, CIESIN does not release personally identifiable information about data users.
DATA ERRORS, CORRECTIONS AND QUALITY ASSESSMENT
CIESIN follows procedures designed to ensure that data disseminated by CIESIN are of reasonable quality. If, despite these procedures, users encounter apparent errors or misstatements in the data, they should contact CIESIN Customer Services at 914/365-8920 or via Internet e-mail at CIESIN.Info@ciesin.org. CIESIN will notify the original data provider of the apparent errors or misstatements. CIESIN will work with University of Michigan and CITAS to correct them.
If the data provider has supplied CIESIN with information relating to the data, such as its validity, reliability, accuracy, completeness, limitations of use, or method of collection, then CIESIN will, in turn, provide the user with the same information. Neither CIESIN nor NASA verifies or guarantees the accuracy, reliability, or completeness of any data provided.
NO WARRANTY OR LIABILITY
CIESIN provides this data without any warranty of any kind whatsoever, either express or implied. CIESIN shall not be liable for incidental, consequential, or special damages arising out of the use of any data provided by CIESIN.
