FUNDAMENTAL GIS:

DIGITAL CHART OF CHINA, 1:1M, VERSION 1

SUMMARY

The Fundamental GIS: Digital Chart of China is a series of 1:1,000,000 scale vector fundamental maps of China in ARC/INFO® format. The data were developed from the Digital Chart of the World (DCW) Vector Product Format (VPF). The original DCW database in VPF was developed by the United States Defense Mapping Agency (DMA) with the cooperation of several agencies in Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

There are two components to the Digital Chart of China, each having six layers. The smaller dataset covers the areas of China proper, while the larger dataset covers China and the surrounding areas contained within 10 and 60 degrees North latitude and 70 to 140 degrees East longitude. The six layers comprising each dataset in the Digital Chart of China are:

• roads
• railroads
• drainage system
• contours
• populated places
• urbanized areas

The Fundamental GIS: Digital Chart of China: 1:1M, Version 1 was developed by CITAS (China in Time and Space) project cooperated and funded by CIESIN under the NASA grant NASG-2901 and the Ford Foundation grant No.995-0669.
