1. When did a treaty enter into force?
Step 1: Select "treaty
locator" from the selection
of links on the top left.
Step 2: On
the treaty locator, find a treaty to work with by entering text
into the "Search Title" or "Search Text"
field or by using any one of the other methods provided on this
page. Hit the submit button to get results. If you choose to
get a list of all treaties in our database, just press the
icon.
For this example, we'll search for the Agreement
concerning the organization of a Joint Institute for Nuclear
Research by filling in the "Search Title" field
and then hit the submit button near the bottom center of page
[you may have to scroll down to see it]. We'll leave the other
filters blank.
Step 3: The
next screen shows the result of our search. One result is returned
since we are only interested in this one
treaty. Our page should now look something like this:

You can get a summary of information on this
treaty by expanding the record on this screen. Click the
blue triangle " "
just to the left of the treaty title. Your screen should now
look like this:

We see now that our
treaty entered into force in 1956. Click on
the treaty title Agreement
concerning the organization of a Joint Institute for
Nuclear Research for
more detailed information regarding this treaty. The
new screen will also have the year of entry into force listed
(if available)
as well as links to other information and the actual
treaty text if available. Empty data cells will display the
characters "--".
The screen looks something like this:
