Westchester County, New York Land
Cover Classification Dataset
The Westchester County, New York Land Cover Classification Dataset consists of land cover maps derived from Landsat 5 (1989) and Landsat 7 (1999) satellite data. Maximum Likelihood Classification was performed on the original satellite data to produce "Original Land Cover Classification" for both the year 1989 and 1999. A "Tailored Land Cover Classification" was then performed on the 1999 data by integrating the original land cover classification with 2000 census housing density data and the 1996 Westchester County land use map. This dataset is the result of collaboration between the Westchester County, New York GIS (WGIS) and Columbia University Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN).
