Data sources Both a 1991 and 1996 boundary file were used for Canada; the number of units, resolution and PopPerUnit listed above refer to the 1996 coverage. Boundaries from Statistics Canada. Third-level pop data from Statistics Canada. 1991 and 1996 population counts were back projected based on the change between 1986-91 and 1991-96.  Change for Census Subdivisions in the 1996 coverage that were not present in the 1991 coverage was estimated based on the average change at the provincial level (admin1).
