10. Contact Information

Contact Information provides the identity of, and means to communicate with, person(s) and organization(s) associated with the dataset. (Note: This section provides a means of identifying individuals and organizations, and is used by multiple sections of the metadata standard. This section is never used alone.)

10.10 Contact Instructions  (Optional)

NOTE: This guide only provides information concerning optionality at the section level and top level elements within each section. Keep in mind that the optionality of a section or compound element always takes precedence over the elements that it contains, and if deemed applicable, then the optionality of its subordinate elements is to be interpreted. Refer to either the FGDC Metadata Workbook, Version 2.0 or Section 10 of the USGS's "Image Map of the Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata", a graphical representation of the Standard for rules concerning optionality.


10.1 Contact Person Primary

Definition: The person, and the affiliation of the person, associated with the dataset; used in cases where the association of the person to the dataset is more significant than the association of the organization to the dataset. This metadata element contains the following sub-elements:

10.1.1 Contact Person

Definition: The name of the individual to which the contact type applies.

Format: Free text.

Example:

10.1.2 Contact Organization

Definition: The name of the organization to which the contact type applies.

Format: Free text.

Example:
Contact Organization

10.2 Contact Organization Primary

Definition: The organization, and the member of the organization, associated with the dataset; used in cases where the association of the organization to the dataset is more significant than the association of the person to the dataset.

10.3 Contact Position

Definition: The title of individual.

Format: Free text.

10.4 Contact Address

Definition: The address for the organization or individual. This metadata element contains the following sub-elements:

10.4.1 Address Type

Definition: The information provided by the address.

Format: Free text.

10.4.2 Address

Definition: An address line for the address.

Format: Free text.

Example:

Definition: The city of the address.

Definition: The state or province of the address.

Definition: The ZIP or other postal code of the address.

Definition: The country of the address.

Definition: The telephone number by which individuals can speak to the organization or individual.

Format: Free text.

10.6 Contact TDD/TTY Telephone

Definition: The telephone number by which hearing-impaired individuals can contact the organization or individual.

Format: Free text.


10.7 Contact Facsimile Telephone

Definition: The telephone number of a facsimile machine of the organization or individual.

Format: Free text.

10.8 Contact Electronic Mail Address

Definition: The address of the electronic mailbox of the organization or individual.

Definition: Time period when individuals can speak to the organization or individual.

Format: Free text.

Definition: Supplemental instructions on how or when to contact the individual or organization.

Format: Free text.
