IMAGE 2.0 Model Guide
Welcome to SEDAC's online guide to
the IMAGE 2.0 model. IMAGE (Integrated Model to Assess the Greenhouse
Effect) was developed at RIVM, the
Netherlands national agency for public health and the environment.
This guide is a component of the SEDAC Model Visualization and Analysis
System (MVAS), whose overall function is to facilitate access to information
about integrated assessment models of climate change. The purpose of this
guide is to help you better understand IMAGE 2.0 and how to use it. If you are
unfamiliar with the field of integrated assessment modeling, we recommend
that you first review SEDAC's Thematic
Guide on Integrated Assessment of Climate Change.
Model Contents:
More information on the IMAGE 2.0 model can be found under the following topic headings:
- SUMMARY -- brief overview of IMAGE 2.0
- DETAILS -- There are two main documents that provide detailed information on the IMAGE 2.0 model. Since these documents are quite large, a table of contents listing is provided via this link that allows access to individual sections. A full-text version is also available by clicking on the links below.
- Technical Description: contains information from the first two chapters of Alcamo et al. (1994), Modeling the global society-biosphere-climate system, Part 1: Model description and testing, and Part 2: Computed Scenarios.
- IMAGE 2.0 Advisory Board Meeting: discussions and conclusions from the IMAGE 2.0 Advisory Board Meeting held on 20-22 June, 1994.
- SCHEMATIC -- schematic diagram of IMAGE 2.0 model structure that can be used to navigate within the MVA webspace.
- VISUALIZE -- view precomputed model scenario outputs using the Visualization and Analysis Service.
- SCENARIOS -- These model runs were selected by the authors as the canonical scenarios for IMAGE 2.0. Alcamo et al. (1994) discuss the model's assumptions in Modeling the global society-biosphere-climate system, Part 2: Computed scenarios.
- Conventional Wisdom
- Biofuel Crops Scenario
- No Biofuel Crops Scenario
- Ocean Realignment Scenario
- ARCHIVE -- ftp archive of data and modeling tools
