The United Republic of Tanzania has no research and monitoring system of ozone profile. However, Tanzania as a party to both the Vienna Convention and Montreal Protocol has undertaken various activities for protecting the Ozone layer. Among these activities includes putting restrictions on the consumption of Ozone depleting Substances. In line with this efforts the country has prepared National Programme for phasing out the Ozone Depleting Substances. Within the National programme, research and monitoring of ozone issues is foreseen.
In the country, the meteorology department is the one which is potential for carrying out the research and monitoring of ozone profile. However, the department is highly affected by limited facilities to carry out this task. Currently the department is undertaking weather measurement in the country, but this is not covering ozone issues. In addition to that, the department has been useful in carrying out studies in Greenhouse gases and the Climate change. The department needs augmentation and technical assistance as backstopping to keep them with the global initiatives for research and monitoring of ozone profile. Besides Meteorology department, other institutions like Universities, National Commission for Radiation are also potential for carrying out such activities.
In order to transfer this technology of research and monitoring of ozone profile, the government of Tanzania appeals to international organizations for assistance like:
