MOPITT (Measurements of Pollution in the Troposphere) Flown onboard Terra (formerly called EOS AM-1). The MOPITT instrument was provided by the Canadian Space Agency and will measure carbon monoxide (CO) and methane (CH4) in the troposphere. Sources and sinks for carbon monoxide will be identified with the resulting daily, weekly, and monthly maps. MOPITT has 6 spectral bands, four focus on CO and 2 focus on CH4, with a pixel size of 22 km. More information:
"Measurement of Pollution in the Troposphere, MOPITT, measures two important pollutants in the Earth's atmospherecarbon monoxide (CO) and methane. This MOPITT image shows the relative amount of CO over North America from March 5-7, 2000." -- MOPITT instrument team (source: http://visibleearth.nasa.gov). |
