Abstract:
TerraViva SEDAC Viewer is a stand alone desktop application providing rapid access to national socioeconomic, environmental and energy geostatistics, thematic maps, and related information easily referenced using geo-coordinates and a gazetteer. SEDAC products include the Population, Landscape And Climate Estimates (PLACE), 2005 Environmental Sustainability Index (ESI), Gridded Population of the World (GPW) Adjusted Population and Density, Global Rural-Urban Mapping Project (GRUMP), Last of the Wild (LWP) Human Footprint, and 2004 CIA World Factbook data and maps. The viewer has the capability for data plotting (scatterplot, histogram, column chart, and data table), animation, and dynamic mapping in 15 map projections, as well as spatial and point-based query functionality. TerraViva SEDAC Viewer is produced by ISCIENCES, L.L.C. in partnership with the Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC) of the Columbia University Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN).
Purpose:
The integrated visualization, analysis, and display of geospatial data will be of primary interest to fundamental and applied researchers, operational users, and public policy experts in the social and earth sciences.
