Thematic Guide to Integrated Assessment Modeling

The Global Change Institute

Begun in 1988, the Global Change Institute (GCI), organized by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR), is an annual two-week intensive meeting of prominent researchers in the field of global change and earth system science to discuss selected topics surrounding global change and to decide on a future research agenda. The goal of the annual institutes is to draw researchers from various disciplines to discuss issues that cross disciplinary lines.

The 1994 GCI topic concerned integrated assessment of climate change. Prominent researchers from both the physical and social sciences convened to assess the state of the art, determine high priority research goals and methods for achieving those goals, and discuss the policy relevance of integrated assessment research.
