The China County-Level Data on Population (Census) and Agriculture, Keyed to 1:1M GIS Map contains 1990 census and agricultural economic variables at the county level for the People's Republic of China, 1990. Also included are geocoded China county boundary GIS data at 1:1M for 1990. The tabular data are available in dBase IV and ArcInfo Interchange formats.
The variables of the population census are included in the following variable groups: Urban-Rural Residence, Age-Sex distribution, Educational attainment, Illiteracy, Marital status, Births 1989-90, Deaths 1989-90, Immigrants since 1985, Industry/Economic activity, Occupation, and Ethnicity.
The variables in the rural economic statistics data set include: Rural population, Rural labor force, Rural labor force in agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishing, Labor force in rural industry, Total area under cultivation, All crops sown area, Grain sown area, Cotton sown, Oil crops sown, Grain output, Cotton output, Oil output, Meat output , Agricultural mechanization, Tractor-plowed area, Irrigated area, Fertilizer used, Electricity used, Value of collective units, Gross value of agricultural output (GVA0), Gross value of rural industrial, Net value of agricultural output, Adjusted GVAO, and Purchased output.
The China County-Level Data on Population (Census) and Agriculture, Keyed to 1:1M GIS Map were developed by CITAS (China in Time and Space) project funded by CIESIN under the NASA grant NASG-2901 and the Ford Foundation grant No.995-0669.
The data are available for download in ArcInfo Interchange (.e00), and dBASE (.dbf) formats here.
